The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started training its Public Affairs Officers (PAOs) from across Nigeria to counter AI-driven misinformation ahead of the 2027 general elections. The capacity building workshop, themed 'Strengthening PAOs Capacity for Credible, Verified and Responsible Election Communication Towards 2027,' was opened in Abuja by National Commissioner Mohammed Kudu Haruna. Haruna warned that the misuse of generative AI to create manipulated media and targeted messaging is a real threat to the Commission. The training aims to enhance the Commission's ability to ensure credible election communication.
