The Oba of Benin, Omo N'Oba N'Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, has urged legal scholars to guard the independence and integrity of the judiciary and discharge their duties without fear or favour. He gave the advice when the League of Luminaries, comprising the Nigerian Law School Class of 1984, paid a courtesy visit to the Benin Palace in Benin City. The monarch described the judiciary as the bedrock of democracy and encouraged the group to use their positions to strengthen the Nigerian judiciary and preserve institutional memories. He prayed for the group's members, who include eminent personalities in various fields.
