Nigeria has been elected to the 35-member Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency for the 2026-2028 term. A statement by Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Oluwafemi Adeniyi said Dr Fatima Florence Ajimobi, Nigeria's Ambassador to Austria and Resident Representative to the IAEA, was appointed as a Governor on the Board. The election was held on 17 September 2026 during the Seventh Plenary Session of the 70th IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Austria. Nigeria was elected alongside Angola, Brazil, Greece, Honduras, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Slovakia and Sweden.
