Seven days after Federal Unity Colleges were due to reopen for the new academic session, most of the 117 schools remain shut. The closure is due to an unresolved dispute between the Federal Government and a faction of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) over the planned concession of King's College, Lagos. The faction, led by Shehu Mohammed, has resolved to continue its strike despite a directive by the Federal Ministry of Education that students should resume on Sunday, September 20, for the 2026/2027 academic session. The union announced its decision in a communiqué issued after an emergency virtual meeting of its zonal coordinators, signed by coordinators representing the six geopolitical zones and Lagos.
