The Anambra State Government has released a memo dated April 25, 2006, attributed to Peter Obi's then Chief of Staff, Chuks Iloegbunam, which appealed for funds to pay Anambra State Water Corporation workers who had not been paid since February. The government is using the document to challenge Obi's claim that workers' salary obligations were cleared before he left office. It has called on Obi to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race if his claim of leaving the state without financial liabilities is disproved. The state's New Media Office recalled two separate pledges attributed to the former governor, including one made during his governorship campaign.
