The Presidential Affairs Committee has asked the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) to provide detailed plans, funding information, and timelines before proceeding with a new refugee settlement in Kitgum District. During a meeting on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, committee chairperson Hon. Martin Ojara Mapenduzi questioned OPM officials, led by Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees Sam Engola, about preparations for water, sanitation, and health services. Mapenduzi noted that the committee had received documents showing that the community voluntarily offered 490 acres for the settlement, along with a Kitgum District Council resolution and an approved physical planning report. The committee is still reviewing these documents, including environmental, social, and climate impact assessments, for the land located in Amida West Subcounty.
