The National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity) has demanded the arrest of owners of illegal mining sites at Lt Gen Mohammed Inuwa Wushishi Estate and Lukoto Village in Minna, Niger State. The sites were where 37 teenagers who died in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were arrested. In a statement, NAS Cap'n Dr Charles Meribole said the owners were culpable for engaging the teenagers in cheap labor instead of school. The association called for a broader inquiry into the ownership of the illegal mining sites, citing Section 131 of the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act 2007, which makes unlawful mining without a license punishable under the law.
