Taiwo Awoniyi has returned to the Super Eagles camp and could play a key role in Nigeria's attack after Victor Osimhen was ruled out of Friday's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar through injury. Awoniyi was recalled to replace Osimhen in Éric Chelle's squad and is already in Uyo as Nigeria intensifies preparations for the Group L opener at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. The Coventry City forward will compete with Akor Adams, Tolu Arokodare, and George Ilenikhena for a place in Chelle's attacking plans. Awoniyi's return comes as the Super Eagles squad continues to take shape, with captain Wilfred Ndidi and winger Samuel Chukwueze the latest arrivals on Tuesday. The pair landed at Victor Attah International Airport at 5:20pm aboard an Ibom Air flight from Lagos, taking the number of players in camp to 23. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali had earlier joined the squad, while the Super Eagles had already held their first training session in Uyo.
