Rivers State Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, ordered the release of 14 inmates from Port Harcourt Maximum Security Custodial Centre. The release was part of the 2026/2027 Legal Year Opening and the 2026 Gaol Delivery Exercise, conducted under the Criminal Justice 'Release from Custody Special Provisions Act' to decongest the facility. Those released included inmates who had exceeded maximum sentences or faced delayed cases. The Chief Judge urged officials to protect confidential information regarding releases.
