Nigeria's broad money supply (M3) rose 12.4 percent year-to-date to a record N139.38 trillion in August 2026, according to Central Bank of Nigeria data. This occurred despite the CBN's monetary tightening measures aimed at controlling inflation and stabilizing the naira. Year-on-year, money supply increased by 16.5 percent from N119.69 trillion in August 2025. The CBN has maintained a tight policy stance, with the Monetary Policy Rate held at 26.50 percent in July 2026.
