Marc Benioff says Salesforce's investment in Anthropic was a plan B that could pay off in ‘tens of billions’

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said on the Sources Podcast that he initially wanted the company to invest in OpenAI, but OpenAI's relationship with Microsoft prevented such a deal. Instead, Salesforce backed Anthropic and other AI startups. Benioff said the investment in Anthropic could eventually be worth "tens of billions." Microsoft, an enterprise software competitor to Salesforce, holds roughly 27% of OpenAI.
