An investigative report titled 'Dirty Deeds: How Top Nigerian Officials Bought A Piece Of America' has revealed that 61 senior Nigerian officials acquired 284 United States properties worth N370 billion ($271 million) using slush funds from 1999 to the present. The report was launched in Abuja by the Platform to Protect Whistleblowers in Africa (PPLAAF) in partnership with local civil society organisations and anti-corruption groups, including Premium Times, Step Up Nigeria, HEDA, and the Anti-Corruption Data Collective. PPLAAF officials said the report aims to help Nigerian authorities determine where the funds originated.
