A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has sentenced a 22-year-old man, Peter Joseph, to one month of community service in a case involving the sale of his employer’s iron rods valued at N4.6 million. Joseph, a resident of Mabushi, was arraigned before Court 4 over the alleged theft of the iron rods from his employer’s shop on August 27. The prosecutor applied for summary trial and conviction under Section 112(8) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015, following which the court convicted the defendant. The court heard that Joseph was employed by an iron dealer in Mabushi to assist in selling iron rods but allegedly sold some of his employer’s stock without consent. The matter was reported to the police before it was brought to court on September 13. The court had requested the nominal complainant to appear and substantiate the valuation with receipts, but he was absent.
