Timber dealers seek govt intervention over poor road

Timber and building-material traders in Lugbe, Abuja, have appealed to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) to provide access roads and other basic infrastructure at their proposed relocation site before they are moved. The traders, operating around the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) Lugbe area, popularly known as the Fruit Market along the Airport Road corridor, said poor road access to the designated site has made it difficult to transport goods and attract customers, threatening the viability of their businesses. They also lamented repeated demolitions at their present location, saying the exercises have destroyed shops, goods, and other investments worth hundreds of millions of naira over the years. The market, which has existed for more than 15 years, comprises timber sellers, iron dealers, fruit sellers, tipper operators, and other businesses. The traders said they have faced several demolition exercises.
