The Akwa Ibom State government has shut down 341 illegal schools across the state's 31 local government areas. The government also disclosed that it has invested N35 billion to update infrastructure and teachers' welfare towards a functional free education scheme. The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh, and Hon. Anietie Etuk, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), made the disclosure at a ministerial briefing. The state government warned that no sharp practices capable of compromising standards in the education sector would be tolerated.
