Prof. Tunji Olaopa has identified the erosion of the value foundation as the bane of Nigeria's civil service. The Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission spoke as a special guest at the 58th International Conference of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria in Abuja on Tuesday. He said the bulk of the bureau-pathologies the service has sought to cure through reform since 1974 stem from this erosion, which also compromises principles such as neutrality, merit, impartiality and democratic accountability. He noted that restoring the value orientation of the public service is a significant reform mission tied to modernising the institution.
