US President Donald Trump expressed support for a diesel export ban during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York. Trump stated that he has called for not sending out diesel, noting that the US produces a lot of diesel and that such a ban could affect regular automobile gasoline. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who was present, said Washington is examining the feasibility of a full or partial ban based on overall refining capacity. The consideration comes amid surging fuel prices since the start of the US-Iran war in late February, which threatens Republican control of Congress in November.
