In northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is expanding its response to the Ebola outbreak as it spreads from Nia Nia in Ituri province to Kisangani in Tshopo province. In Kisangani, MSF has been running an Ebola treatment centre at Hôpital du Cinquantenaire since late June and in early September transferred patients to a new 22-bed facility, increasing capacity. In Nia Nia, MSF began working alongside the Ministry of Health in early August and this week opened a new 50-bed treatment centre next to the local hospital. The two locations are closely connected due to significant movement of people and goods between Ituri, Tshopo, and Haut-Uele provinces.
