The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar III, has called on religious leaders to ensure that no individual escapes justice due to religious, family or personal ties. Speaking at a meeting of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) in Abuja on Wednesday, he said religious leaders must resist protecting offenders simply because they are pastors, imams, relatives or friends. He stressed that corruption cannot be justified by religious affiliation or by good deeds performed with illicit wealth. The Sultan urged religious leaders to support the fight against corruption and allow law-enforcement agencies to operate without interference.
