The United Kingdom has removed Nigeria, Ghana, and India from the list of countries whose teachers can use the direct application service for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England. The change, effective from September 9, 2026, means teachers trained in these countries will no longer be eligible for the service. The UK Department for Education cited the absence of a national regulator in India capable of confirming teachers' professional standing as a reason. For Nigeria and Ghana, the department noted that the relevant authorities do not meet its verification requirements.
