Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Gender Center Builds the Capacities of Police and Gendarmerie Officers, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Focal Points in Côte d’Ivoire, for a More Effective Response to Gender-Based Violence

The ECOWAS Center for Gender Development, the Ministry of Women, Family, and Children of Côte d'Ivoire, and the Akwaba Mousso Association co-organized a capacity building workshop in Abidjan on September 16–17, 2026. The workshop targeted Judicial Police Officers from the Police and Gendarmerie, Gender-Based Violence focal points in the justice sector, and other frontline actors. Its objective was to strengthen practical skills for preventing GBV, identifying victims, and providing holistic care to survivors, including support, referral, and access to coordinated services. The meeting formed part of efforts to consolidate a multisectoral response to GBV through improved collaboration among the security, justice, health, and social protection sectors.
