Members of the media have been advised to apply for accreditation to cover the 40th Anniversary Commemorations of the Mbuzini Tragedy in Mpumalanga. The year 2026 marks 40 years since the plane crash on 19 October 1986, which killed Mozambican President Samora Moises Machel and 34 other Mozambican nationals, including crew members and journalists. The commemorations will take place on Monday, 19 October at the Samora Machel Monument and Museum in Mbuzini, Nkomazi local Municipality, under the theme "Commemorating Lifelong Dedication to the People of Southern Africa: Honouring All Victims of the Mbuzini Tragedy." Media wishing to cover the event must complete the online accreditation form, with applications closing on Friday, 25 September 2026 at 16:00.
