Shingo Ueno, CEO of Sumitomo Corporation, a Japanese conglomerate with a market capitalization of around $55 billion, emphasized the importance of the Japanese concept of 'kosoryoku' in the AI age. In an interview with Business Insider in early September, Ueno explained that kosoryoku translates to 'the ability to envision futures that do not yet exist'. He noted that while AI is a powerful research tool, it cannot yet conceptualize the future well, making kosoryoku a crucial human skill in business.
