The United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) convened a meeting with approximately fifteen journalists in Bunia, Ituri, to mark the International Day of Peace on September 21. The gathering, organized by MONUSCO's Public Information Section, focused on the media's role in peacebuilding in a region still affected by armed violence. Josiah Obat, Head of the MONUSCO Office in Bunia, emphasized that peace is everyone's responsibility and highlighted the dual nature of information, which can either build peace or exacerbate divisions when unverified. The discussion also covered MONUSCO's peace efforts in Ituri and the responsibility of media professionals amid armed group activities and the spread of false information.
