The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a preliminary investigation into Comma AI's hands-off driving devices on September 21. The probe follows five reported crashes where vehicles equipped with the devices struck slow-moving or stopped vehicles. Eleven people were injured and three died in the incidents.
