Fish import bill drops 14% to N167bn in Q2’26 – NBS

Nigeria spent about N167.91 billion importing different fish varieties in the second quarter of 2026, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics. This represents a 14.8 per cent decline from N197.17 billion recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025. The NBS Foreign Trade in Goods Statistics report covers six fish species: blue whitings, herrings, mackerel, jack and horse mackerel, yellowfin tuna, and other unclassified frozen fish species. Blue whitings remained the single largest fish import, easing from N116.13 billion in Q2 2025 to N96.93 billion in Q2 2026.
