Respite for Bakiyawa Women After Years of Poor Maternity Care

The renovation of the Bakiyawa Maternal and Child Health Centre in Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina State by UNICEF, with funding from the Global Fund, has brought hope to women in the community. Suwaiba Abubakar, a 45-year-old mother of nine, had given birth to all her children at the facility and received routine vaccinations there. For years, she associated the centre with poor maternity care and limited services. The recent upgrade aims to provide safer and better healthcare for women and children.
