Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has urged Nigeria to adopt indigenous languages as the primary language of instruction in early education, citing examples from South Korea, India, and China. He gave this advice at the Fafunwa Educational Foundation (FEF) annual lecture and symposium held in Lagos. The event focused on the relevance of using mother tongues in early education. Academics at the event called on the federal government to reinstate the 2022 National Language Policy. Otti commended FEF for keeping alive the research-supported observation made by Professor Fafunwa and others that children learn better in their mother tongue.
