The Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar III, have urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to pursue corrupt Nigerians without fear or favour, including pastors and imams. The religious leaders' call came as the EFCC revealed that corruption has permeated religious circles, with many ordained pastors and imams under investigation for fraud and misappropriation of funds. The Sultan, who co-chairs NIREC, spoke at the council's meeting in Abuja, stating that religious leaders have a duty to fight corruption because God abhors it.
