The Humanitarian Coordinator in Somalia, George Conway, has warned that millions of people are at risk due to high levels of hunger and malnutrition. The latest IPC analysis projects that 5.4 million people will face crisis levels of hunger or worse between October and December 2026, including 1.5 million facing emergency levels. While acute malnutrition in Burhakaba district has improved, Baidoa district is now identified as a new area at risk of famine, driven by catastrophic hunger and critical malnutrition among internally displaced people.
