The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has stated that Artificial Intelligence (AI) could significantly transform productivity, investment, labour markets, and economic policy, while creating both opportunities and risks. In its 2026 Annual Report, the IMF noted that private-sector investment in AI could exceed $2 trillion globally in 2026. The report also mentioned that AI-related technology investments added an estimated 0.5 percentage point to US GDP growth in 2025. Productivity growth in the US has accelerated in recent years, possibly reflecting early AI adoption.
