Around 20 African countries launched the signing process for the African Convention on the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration of Child Soldiers. The ceremony took place at the foreign minister level in New York, chaired by Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita. The event was held at Morocco's Permanent Mission to the United Nations during the high-level week of the 81st UN General Assembly session. Bourita described the Convention as a demonstration of collective African action and the continent's ability to develop its own standards.
