Companies are increasingly trying to rehire former employees, including some who were laid off, in a trend known as boomerang hiring. Amazon is among the firms recruiting back workers it previously let go. One CEO rehired someone after realizing that AI-driven restructuring had moved too quickly. Another company more than doubled its boomerang hires in two years.
