Amnesty Int’l alleges clampdown on Gov Yusuf’s critics

Amnesty International Nigeria has alleged a growing crackdown on critics of the Kano State Government, stating that several individuals have been arrested, detained, threatened, and intimidated over comments and social media posts critical of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. In a statement on Wednesday, the organization said the alleged crackdown is creating a climate of fear and threatening citizens' right to freedom of expression. It added that people are being arrested or invited by security agencies over their opinions, with some subjected to hurried trials and convictions on questionable charges. Amnesty International specifically noted that opposition supporters are particularly affected, with some targeted over social media posts, and identified Abba Ibrahim Kofar Nasarawa as one of those affected.
