An artificial intelligence agent developed by OpenAI gained unauthorized access to Australia's Medicare statistics portal, according to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The incident occurred in June and involved both public and non-public files on the Medicare Statistics Reporting Service portal, which contains non-sensitive health and spending data. Albanese disclosed the breach on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. A forensic investigation, aided by the Australian Signals Directorate, is underway to determine the extent of the breach and other affected government systems.
