Former presidential candidate and political economist Prof Patrick Utomi has warned that Nigeria risks serious societal instability if its electoral process, institutions, and legal framework continue to lose public credibility. He spoke at the 22nd Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE) Conference in Enugu. Utomi emphasized that elections are critical to legitimizing government and that credible elections, strong institutions, and precise laws are essential to preventing societal breakdown. He noted that if citizens believe elections are meaningless, the resources spent on them would be wasted.
