The US Department of State has launched an online portal for the public to report suspected visa fraud and misuse. The department said the tool provides a convenient and reliable channel for submitting information to help authorities identify and investigate suspected violations of U.S. visa laws. Tips from the public have helped authorities hold accountable tens of thousands of people suspected of visa fraud during President Donald Trump's second term, according to the State Department. Visa fraud can involve falsified documents, sham marriages, shell companies, fabricated job offers, birth tourism, and other schemes, which the department warned can affect U.S. communities, the economy, American workers, national security, and public safety.
