Members of Parliament in Uganda have called for a comprehensive assessment of government interventions and funds spent in Karamoja to determine their impact and understand why previous programs have failed to bring lasting change. The call was made during a meeting of the Presidential Affairs Committee with the Ministry of Karamoja Affairs, chaired by Hon. Martin Ojara Mapenduzi. The meeting considered the proposed Karamoja Regional Development Plan (KRDP), a 10-year, Shs15 trillion plan aimed at transforming the region from a nomadic and agro-pastoralist society into a settled and commercially productive one. The Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Hon. John Baptist Lokii, outlined interventions under the plan, including a man-made lake and bulk water transfers.
