CHRICED demands probe into Wike’s G5 claim on 2023 poll

The Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) has called for an investigation into claims by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that the G5 governors deliberately allowed Labour Party's Peter Obi to win in parts of the South-South during the 2023 presidential election to weaken the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar. CHRICED said the claim raises serious questions about the role of powerful political actors in shaping electoral outcomes and the extent to which voters' choices may have been influenced. In a statement on Thursday, CHRICED's Executive Director, Dr Ibrahim M. Zikirullahi, called for clarification from the Independent National Electoral Commission, the National Assembly, the Attorney-General of the Federation and relevant security agencies. Wike made the claim during a television appearance.
