The Supreme Court has restored portions of the Electoral Act 2026 that had been struck down by the Court of Appeal. A seven-member panel of Justices unanimously allowed an appeal filed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The court validated sections 77(5), (6), and (7), as well as 84(2) of the Act, which regulate political party membership registers and candidate nomination procedures for the 2027 general elections.
