Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has put President Brad Smith in charge of the company's communications department, according to an internal memo. The move hands oversight to an executive who has been the public face of Microsoft's policy positions on regulation, geopolitics, and AI governance. Previously, the communications department was overseen by Chief Marketing Officer Takeshi Numoto. Frank Shaw, Microsoft's current chief communications officer, recently announced plans to leave at the end of the year, and no replacement has been named.
