Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle said Udinese requested that one of Nigeria's invited players remain with the club for activities ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The player, Okoye, was the only member of Nigeria's 24-man squad yet to arrive in camp as the team prepared in Uyo. Chelle said he would assess the situation and make necessary decisions ahead of the qualifiers. Nigeria will begin their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign against Madagascar on Friday, September 25.
