Nigeria has urged the international community to establish sustained, long-term support systems for victims and survivors of violent extremism rather than relying on short-term humanitarian relief. The call was made at the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, co-convened by Spain and Iraq on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations General Assembly. Minister of Defence General Christopher Gwabin Musa, addressing delegates, emphasised the disproportionate impact of terrorism on Africa, noting that sub-Saharan Africa accounted for approximately 60 per cent of global terrorism-related deaths in 2025. The statement was contained in a release by Leah Katung-Babatunde, Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Defence.
