Energy leaders have called on the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to prioritize technical capacity and expertise when awarding oil and gas blocks. They warned that assigning assets to unqualified companies contributes to Nigeria's production underperformance and missed revenue. The call was made at the Nigeria Energy Leaders Summit 2026 in Lagos by PETAN Chairman Wole Ogunsanya, who emphasized the need to raise production from 1.7-1.8 million barrels per day to the government's 3 million barrels target by 2030.
