The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has suffered a major defection as its former governorship candidate, Dr. Tonte Ibraye, officially resigned from the party. In a letter dated September 24, 2026, addressed to the ADC Ward Chairman in Degema Ward 16, Bille, Ibraye said his exit takes immediate effect. He cited internal factionalization, illegal displacement of party executives, and ongoing leadership tussles surrounding a faction led by former Senate President David Mark. Ibraye warned that candidates emerging from the current leadership dispute risk eventual legal disqualification, saying they are standing on 'quicksand.'
