Vice-President Kashim Shettima delivered President Bola Tinubu's national statement at the UN General Assembly in New York on Thursday. He warned that national defences alone cannot protect countries from terrorism, cyber threats, and other dangers that cross international borders. Drawing on Nigeria's fight against Boko Haram and ISWAP, Shettima called for stronger international cooperation against transnational security threats. He said military operations are necessary but cannot by themselves achieve lasting victory over violent extremism.
