Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, has promised to ensure that the Niger Delta region benefits from the oil wealth it generates if elected. He made this commitment during the inauguration of the NDC campaign headquarters in Asaba, Delta State. Obi stated that the era when the oil-rich region contributed significantly to national wealth without corresponding development must end. He also lamented the deplorable state of the East-West Road and other federal roads in the region.
