Edo Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd has carried out palliative repairs on failed portions of the Benin-Sapele-Warri highway as part of its corporate social responsibility. The company said it intervened to prevent trucks and heavy-duty vehicles from suffering breakdowns and loss of goods, and was concerned about stories of fallen trucks on the highway. The repairs were done at various sections, including Iyanomo, Ekosa, Obayantor, Ologbo, and Koko junction in Delta State. Head of Technical Operations Segun Okeni said the intervention aimed to prevent a repeat of an incident five years ago when an oil tanker fell at a bad spot in Ologbo, causing a fire that killed over 20 persons.
