Ukraine's military is increasingly deploying uncrewed ground vehicles to evacuate wounded soldiers from areas that medics cannot reach, reducing the risk of additional casualties. The MAUL purpose-built evacuation robot is designed to move faster than robots used for firing weapons and carrying gear, allowing it to try to escape Russian attacks and get soldiers to treatment faster. However, developers and medics say the speed also introduces new risks and compounds any errors made by the operator. Like medical crews, casualty evacuation robots are targets, and combat footage has captured robots being attacked by Russia.
