East African Community (EAC) Strengthens Fiscal and Monetary Policy Coordination Towards the Monetary Union

The East African Community (EAC) is reviewing measures to strengthen fiscal and monetary policy coordination as Partner States prepare for the East African Monetary Union (EAMU). Meetings held in Arusha, Tanzania, from 21 to 25 September 2026, focused on improving budget credibility, aligning tax policies, and establishing joint economic assessment arrangements. The Committee on Fiscal Affairs and the Monetary Affairs Committee held separate sessions before a joint session to address coordinated actions. The EAC Director of Planning called for practical arrangements to support the EAMU Protocol's implementation.
